Our Principal Dentist
DR GARRET ROBLES completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree at the University of the Philippines, on full academic state scholarship. He placed 1st in the Philippine Dental Board Examinations in 2001, and the following year completed his Postgraduate Clinical Training in Paediatric Dentistry at the Philippine Children's Medical Center - the Philippines' lead Department of Health Specialist Children's Hospital. Dr Robles had the opportunity to teach at both institutions as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Hospital Staff (Paediatric) Dentist.
In 2013, Dr Robles received his Australian Dental Council Certificate, allowing him full registration as a general dental practitioner. He joined a corporate practice and consulted from Fulham Road in Pimlico, but left private practice briefly to teach at James Cook University - initially as a Clinical Supervisor and later Senior Lecturer for Clinical Dentistry and Dentist-In-Charge of JCU Dental in Townsville from 2014-2015 - where he supervised and assessed final year dental students.
Dr Garret is now on his 19th year of clinical private practice since university graduation. To constantly update his knowledge and skills, he has completed a Mini Residency in Prosthodontics (dental implants) and regularly attends seminars in paediatric dentistry, orthodontics and special needs.
A more recent project that Dr Robles and his wife and business manager, Dr Mary Ann Palma-Robles (PhD), is involved with is on the delivery of oral health services at residential aged care facilities and remote Queensland schools.
In 2018 Dr Robles was awarded the NQPHN Dentist of the Year Award in recognition of Project Outback Dental’s rural and remote services in North and West Queensland.
Dr Robles is an executive committee member of the Australian Society of Special Care in Dentistry (ASSCID), an active member of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (ANZSPD) in Queensland, and the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT).
He is also a credentialed Dental Practitioner (Paediatric) at the Mater Private Hospital where he performs comprehensive dental rehabilitation and minor oral surgery on children and patients with special needs requiring a general anaesthetic.
Our Associate Dentist
DR CASEY TOWNSEND grew up in Townsville and completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at James Cook University in Cairns. Having now returned home, she is excited to provide high quality dental care to Townsville residents.
Throughout her training, Casey spent much time working in Cairns, Townsville and Mt. Isa. This has given her a unique understanding of indigenous health and oral health as it relates to those in Queensland. She has also spent a significant amount of time volunteering in Papua New Guinea providing oral health care and education to locals.
Casey enjoys all areas of general dentistry with a particular interest in treating paediatric patients. She also prides herself in providing positive dental experiences for anxious patients to ensure that they feel comfortable and accepted. Casey understands that every person is unique and endeavours to deliver individualised care partnering alongside patients to improve oral health and achieve excellent results.
Dr Townsend consults from the Townsville Aboriginal and Islander Health Service Dental Department.
Dr Casey is currently on maternity leave. The practice wishes her all the very best in this new chapter of her young family life with her husband and medical doctor Dr James Townsend and baby Adelyn Hannah.
